Newborn Photos at Studio 623 Photography in Sandy, Oregon

A few short weeks ago, did a gorgeous winter wooded maternity session for these first time parents and then we met up again just the other day for newborn photos! Bundling maternity photos with your newborn session is such a fun way to capture the journey through pregnancy and into parenthood. I absolutely love watching clients go from this:

Doing a maternity photo session before ever stepping into the studio for newborn portraits has some benefits. First of all, if we don’t already know each other, the maternity session is a good way to break the ice. There usually isn’t much talking to be done during a newborn session, as I am focused on keeping baby asleep, and so that everyone can relax and enjoy the experience, I really like to have some trust built before I handle anyone’s precious newborn baby. Second, having some time together it makes it easier to stay in touch regarding baby’s arrival, since I like to do newborn photo sessions within the first two weeks after birth.

Other things you can do to prepare for your newborn session, or that might be helpful during the photoshoot itself are:

  1. Feed and change baby before you head out the door, but come prepared to do those things again plus likely feed/soothe during the session. Even if you are not doing pacifiers or bottles yet, a binkie or a bit of extra milk or formula can be very helpful during photos.

  2. Dress baby loosely for the car ride; try to avoid elastics and things that will leave marks on skin.

  3. Bring extra changes of everything, a diapering kit etc. To comply with county health regulations I unfortunately do not have a changing station at the studio, so please bring diapers, wipes, a pad etc.

  4. The studio will be warm… like 90 degrees ish. I recommend wearing removable layers.

  5. Bring any props/outfits/blankets etc that you’d like to incorporate into your newborn photos. I love personalizing your session!

Hey Parents!

Would you like to get some R&R during your newborn photo session? At the Revive Suites, you can do just that! Let your Partner, Grandma or Uncle or Auntie supervise your newborn photo session while you treat yourself to any of the numerous spa services in the building. There will still be plenty of time to pop in at the beginning or end of photos if you want to be in some shots. You can get your hair washed and styled, by a number of stylists, or right next door to Studio 623 Photography is Golden Hour Aesthetics where you can get a relaxing facial. Head downstairs for a spa pedicure, a manicure, acupuncture and massage. Self care and relaxation is SO important for your postpartum healing and recovery and for nervous system regulation as you adjust to this new chapter of parenthood. And if you don’t want to miss a second of the newborn session? I totally get it! But be sure to make time later to come in and treat yourself to a spa day.
