Mt Hood Senior Photos

Isaiah is a senior at Sandy High School this year, and he plays in the jazz band. When it came time for his senior photos, we skipped the studio and drove up to Mt. Hood instead. Timberline Lodge has this quiet, historic weight to it that felt right for a kid about to close one chapter and open the next. I am Becky Chambers, and this session with Isaiah was one of my favorite senior shoots of the summer.

Where is Timberline Lodge?

Timberline Lodge sits at 6,000 feet on the south side of Mt. Hood, about 60 miles east of Portland in the Mount Hood National Forest. It was built between 1936 and 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, dedicated by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1937, and named a National Historic Landmark in 1977. It also happens to have the longest ski season in the country, and a well known cameo as the Overlook Hotel in The Shining, though we were there for sunshine, not snow.

What is a senior session at Timberline Lodge like?

A senior session up here means big sky, timber and stone architecture behind you, and a mountain that shows up in nearly every frame. The light bounces differently at elevation. Golden hour stretches longer, and the air has that crisp, clean quality that makes portraits look a little more alive. We walked the grounds, found a few quiet corners away from the crowds, and let Isaiah just be himself in front of the lens.

What was Isaiah’s summer session like?
