Cozy In Home Newborn Session in Estacada, Oregon

Some mornings ask to be photographed. This one happened in a light filled home in Estacada, one week after this family became a family of four. Soft window light, a chunky knit blanket, a nursery with a striped wall worth framing, and a baby who slept through nearly all of it. I am Becky Chambers of Studio 623 Photography, and in home newborn sessions like this one are some of my favorite work.

What is an in home newborn session?

An in home newborn session is a relaxed photo session in your own house, usually within the first two weeks after birth. No studio, no schedule beyond the baby’s, no props beyond a few soft knits I bring along. I work with your light, your nursery, and your people. The photos end up looking like your real life, only quieter and lovelier.

What happens during an in home newborn session?

Mostly, you stay comfortable while I move around you. This session started on a chunky knit blanket with the baby in a little bear bonnet, moved to the nursery so big brother could show off the crib, and ended with everyone piled on the couch. Mom got her quiet moment. Dad got his. Feeding breaks and diaper changes happened whenever the baby asked. Nothing about the morning was rushed, and you can see that in the photos.

Do I need a picture perfect house for in home newborn photos?

No. You need window light and one or two rooms you like, and I will find the rest. This Estacada home made it easy, all soft neutrals and texture, but I have photographed newborns in apartments, farmhouses, and living rooms mid renovation. I shoot toward the windows, keep the frame simple, and let a knit blanket or a striped nursery wall do the talking. Clutter never makes the photo. Light does.

When should you book a newborn session?

Ideally during pregnancy, so a date can be held near your due date and the baby photographed within the first two weeks. This little one was one week old, right in that sleepy, curled up stage. That said, I photograph plenty of babies at three, six, and ten weeks, and those sessions are every bit as beautiful. There is no missed window worth losing sleep over. You will be losing enough as it is.

Looking for an Estacada newborn photographer?

I photograph newborns in homes across Estacada, Sandy, Portland, and the surrounding areas, and in my Sandy studio. After 20 plus years and hundreds of babies, I promise your house has more beautiful corners than you think. You can see more of this work on my newborn photography page, or send me a note through my contact page and tell me when your little one is due.
