Some sessions feel like a milestone the whole family gets to keep. Gemma came into the studio just before her first birthday with her mom and dad, a lineup of sweet outfits, and the kind of smile that made every frame easy. We played, we snuggled, and we made photographs her family will still be reaching for when she is off to kindergarten.

What is a first birthday milestone session?

A first birthday milestone session is a relaxed studio session built around baby turning one. It is part portrait session and part playtime, with room for standing practice, balloon chasing, outfit changes, and snuggles with mom and dad. There is no schedule to keep and no party to host. The focus stays on baby’s personality, the chunky little hands, the wispy hair, and the almost-walking wobble that disappears faster than anyone expects.

What was Gemma’s first birthday session like?

Pure sunshine. Gemma started in a cozy cream knit and a peach bow, practicing her standing against the white shiplap while mom and dad cheered her on from the bench. Then came a sage green tulle dress and a balloon garland in sage, blush, and cream, which she was fairly sure had been hung just for her. A white top with mustard bloomers and a big yellow bow wrapped up the outfit changes, and in between we made black and white frames of chubby baby feet, giggles over dad’s shoulder, and a few quiet nursing moments with her mama, the kind of photos that mean more every year.
